Willa J. Knowlton Obituary, Native Of Whipple Passes Away At 92

At 11:14 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024, Willa J. Knowlton, 92, of Whipple, passed away at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Lower Salem, Massachusetts, on August 3, 1931, to Charles and Myrtle (Holdren) Rhodes. Willa had worked at Marietta College and Salem-Liberty Schools. She was a homemaker and a 1949 graduate of Salem Liberty High School. Twin Rivers Baptist Church was her church. Willa played the piano for many years as a member of the Whipple Community Church. Her life’s work was preparing food, especially pies, for other people.

She wed Ralph F. Knowlton on January 14, 1950; he passed away on March 25, 2011.

Their children, Jerry Knowlton of Caldwell, Joann (Dale) Ullman of Marietta, and Jeffrey (Janet) Knowlton of Marietta, are all still living. In addition, there are five great-grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who survive: Brad (Shelley) Ullman, Todd (Christine) Ullman, Sandra Whittle, Eric (Lesly) Knowlton, and Steven (Mary) Knowlton.

Willa was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters in addition to her parents and spouse.

On Saturday, January 6, at Twin Rivers Baptist Church, there will be a funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in Salem Township Cemetery. On Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8, friends may visit the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.
