The county coroner, Rusty Clevenger, confirmed the identity of the dead in an email on Thursday afternoon. Victor Figueroa Roblero, 48, was the man who passed away.

Roblero’s identity was confirmed by fingerprints from the National Crime Information Center, and he passed away on Monday, January 1 at 1:05 a.m.

Renée Wunderlich, a spokesman for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Agency, issued information on Tuesday stating that a white Ford F-150 that was driving in the wrong direction on a one-way roadway inside the college’s boundaries was confronted by an armed campus safety officer.

According to the release, a physical struggle occurred between the campus safety officer and the male driver, who was later identified as Roblero. During the altercation, the officer fired a fatal shot.

Spartanburg County Coroner has disclosed the identity of the individual fatally shot by Spartanburg Methodist College campus security in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

According to SLED’s release, the campus safety officer needed hospital treatment for injuries he received during the physical altercation, even though no law enforcement officers were hurt by gunshot. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Agency was called in by SMC Campus Safety to look into the incident.
