Vanessa Villarreal Moreno Obituary: 41-year-old Harlingen woman killed in Friday crash in Mercedes near Texas Avenue.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal Friday crash involving two vehicles fatal in Mercedes, TX.
According to the department spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hernandez, the crash happened at approximately 4:36 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, on the westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 2 in Mercedes near Texas Avenue.
A Ford Focus and a Dodge Ram collided, an investigation found, according to a news release from Hernandez on Saturday morning.
According to Sgt. Hernandez, Vanessa Villarreal Moreno, 41, of Harlingen, who was a passenger in the Ford, passed away at the scene from her wounds.
After the collision, the Ford’s driver, a female who has not been named, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The Dodge Ram’s male driver was not admitted to the hospital.
Traffic was diverted onto the frontage road and the expressway’s westbound lanes were briefly closed. It was back in service on Friday night.
