The New Mexico State Police were told that the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reacted to a shooting that took place on Interstate 40, close to milepost 78, in Cibola County, New Mexico, at around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
One guy was taken into custody as a result of the shooting, and another male victim was struck by gunfire and sent to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. The inquiry was undertaken by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau (NMSP/IB), which took the main role.
An altercation took place when the male suspect, who has been named as Taylor Von Littleton, exited a vehicle that he was operating (a Ford Mustang), according to the New Mexico State Police and the Independent Bureau of Investigation.
A sprinter van was the target of at least three (3) rounds fired by Taylor at some point in time. Something like this happened during a snowstorm, when there was a collision that resulted in a backup.
In the Mustang, Taylor attempted to flee the scene. As a result of the Mustang departing the county, the Grants Police Department first pursued the vehicle but ultimately decided to call off the pursuit. After seeing the Mustang, a New Mexico State Police officer made an attempt to pull it over.
Following the mustang’s escape, a pursuit was initiated. After some time, the Mustang came to a stop in the median of Interstate 40 Westbound at Milepost 26. In the course of a felony stop, New Mexico State Police officers saw that the driver had fled the scene. When law officers discovered footprints in the snow, they followed them to Rehoboth, where they discovered Von Littleton cowering in a dumpster.
According to the results of an NCIC check, the vehicle that Littleton was driving had been reported stolen from the state of Texas. On the exterior of the vehicle that had been stolen, a Ruger.380 semi-automatic handgun was discovered.
An attempt to commit a felony in the first degree, shooting at or from a motor vehicle (leading in grave bodily harm), aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, and receiving or transferring stolen cars or motor vehicles in the first offense were the charges that were brought against Von Littleton.
Additionally, the New Mexico State Police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
