Sgt. Jake Galliher Obituary: In loving memory of US Air Force SSgt Jake Galliher killed in an Osprey crash off the coast of Japan.
Returning home are the remains of one of the eight service personnel killed in the crash of a CV-22 Osprey off the coast of Japan, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from Massachusetts.
On Friday afternoon, the body of 24-year-old Jacob “Jake” Galliher was scheduled to arrive at the Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. From there, it will be transported in a procession to a funeral home in Pittsfield, his hometown.
According to officials, his remains would be escorted by members of the Dalton American Legion Riders, the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, the Pittsfield police and fire departments, and the Massachusetts State Police.
The Osprey crashed Wednesday, November 29 during a training mission just off Yakushima Island in southwestern Japan while on its way to Okinawa.
“Jacob was an incredible son, brother, husband, father and friend to so many. His short life touched and made better the lives of hundreds, if not thousands in Pittsfield, in this region and everywhere he served…Jacob lived to serve his family, his country and the people he loved,” Galliher’s family said in a statement.
