Seth Sugar Car Accident: University of Michigan student killed in crash involving e-scooter in Ann Arbor.
According to the City of Ann Arbor Police Department, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, officers responded to Oakland Avenue and Hill Street for a personal injury crash involving a sedan and a motorized scooter. When officers arrived, they located a 21-year-old male with significant head injuries.
The 21-year-old was transported to University of Michigan hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Sunday, July 9, police said in a media release.
According to police, preliminary investigation indicates the 21-year-old male was operating a battery-operated motorized scooter and was traveling eastbound on Hill Street when the scooter crossed the center line near Oakland Avenue, causing a head-on collision with a sedan that was traveling westbound. The driver of the sedan, a 77-year-old Ann Arbor resident, was not injured in the crash and remained on scene.
Deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation unit also responded to the scene and assisted in the crash investigation.
The operator of the scooter has been identified as 21-year-old University of Michigan student Seth Sugar from Deerfield, Illinois.
