Sally Kempton Obituary – Cause of Death: Spiritual teacher, ‘Awakening Shakti,’ author Sally Kempton passes away.
On Monday, July 8th, the death of spiritual teacher and author, Sally Kempton was announced via statement shared on her Facebook page.
“Dear Fellow Friends and Students of Sally Kempton, This is to share with you the sad news that Sally left her body this morning (Monday, July 10, 2023),” the statement read.
“Now, a time of mourning begins for those of us who treasured Sally’s company and teachings, and also a time of celebration for us of her life—for who she was and what she gave and meant to us.”
Her cause of death was not mentioned.
Kempton is a widely respected teacher of meditation and spiritual wisdom. A former journalist who wrote for “Esquire,” “New York,” and the “Village Voice,” she has spent over four decades practicing, teaching, and writing on meditation and spiritual philosophy.
The announcement of her death was flooded by heartfelt tributes across social media. She will be sorely missed.

She reciprocated with her effusive love, warmth and kindness in a way that is incredibly rare. She wrote generous blurbs and a gorgeous foreword for my books, gave me profound advice on teaching, and shared laughter and beauty easily,” a tribute post shared via social media read.
It was Sally’s wish that a special service be held in her memory for her community of students. Honoring this request, we will be holding a 13-day ceremony for Sally via Zoom, on Sunday, July 23rd. (Details will follow sometime in the next few days.)
