Rex Heuermann has been identified as the 59 years old suspect who was arrested at his home on 1st Ave. in Massapequa Park, in the serial killing case.
Rex is reportedly due to appear in court in hours, as he is being examined by the so-called “Gilgo Four”, women found wrapped in burlap days apart since late 2010, and not by the six others later deemed possibly connected.
Fears of a serial killer were raised when the body of 24-year-old Melissa Barthelemy was found along Ocean Parkway on December 11, 2010, with the remains of three other women found in the days that followed.

The serial killing victims, “Gilgo Four”—Barthelemy along with Megan Waterman, 22, Amber Lynn Costello, 27, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25—were found whole, wrapped in burlap about a tenth of a mile from each other on the beach.
In the spring of 2011, a total of 10 bodies were discovered, consisting of eight women, an unidentified man, and a young child. During the search for missing Jersey City sex worker Shannan Gilbert, the bodies were discovered. It is worth noting that Shannan Gilbert’s body was not found until December 2011, a year after the Giglo Four.
According to John Ray, a lawyer representing Gilbert’s family, he informed News 12 that he possessed a highly compelling and credible lead indicating that an arrest was imminent approximately one week ago.
In a recent statement, the individual confirmed that they have yet to receive any official communication from the investigators. It has been several months since they last heard from them.
Ray, who also represents the family of Jessica Taylor, 20, another victim among the deceased women not initially included in the count, expressed satisfaction if the authorities have indeed succeeded in identifying a suspect for these crimes. The individuals express their contentment with the current developments, as they have experienced a prolonged period of dissatisfaction.
In a significant development, an arrest was made on Friday following the establishment of a homicide task force in Gilgo Beach by the new Suffolk County Police Commissioner in February of the previous year.
The collaborative effort involved various law enforcement agencies, such as the state police, local sheriffs, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the FBI. Commissioner Rodney Harrison, a former NYPD department chief, expressed his belief that this case is solvable and emphasized the importance of identifying the person or persons responsible for these murders.
