Norm Snead Obituary News: Four-time NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Norm Snead passes away
On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles are in grief over the passing of a former Pro Bowl quarterback. Quarterback Norm Snead, an NFL Pro Bowler four times, passed away at home in Florida. His age was eighty-four.
He was born on July 31, 1939, in Halifax County, Virginia, Norman Bailey Snead was raised in Newport News, Virginia. At Warwick High School, he played baseball, basketball, and football. In 1984, he was admitted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
Among other NFL teams, Snead played for the Eagles and Giants. He was a league player in the ’60s and ’70s.
“The Eagles are saddened by the passing of former quarterback Norm Snead on Sunday, January 14 in Naples, Fla., at the age of 84,” the organization tweeted.
Washington selected Mr. Snead with the second overall pick in the 1961 NFL draft. The Buffalo Bills selected him with the 33rd overall pick in the American Football League draft of the same year. After making two trips to the Pro Bowl during his three seasons as a player in Washington, he was moved to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Claude Crabb and Sonny Jurgensen.
In addition to 23 rushing touchdowns, he concluded his career with 30,797 passing yards and 196 throwing touchdowns.
