Crews were called to a fatal train crash on Thursday, according to the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office reports that the incident occurred at the entrance of Sweetwater Valley Farm and blocked two junctions.

A social media post stated that while workers were on the scene, Pond Creek Road at Elm Street and Christian Street at Church Street were temporarily closed. According to the LCSO, Spring Street at the railroad lines was open and may have served as a detour.

One person died in the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, which was made public on Friday. The deceased victim was identified as Tennessee native Miguel Angel Lopez Zavala, 36.

Zavala didn’t stop while traveling east, and the report states that a Norfolk Southern train was traveling north on the tracks that run parallel to Highway 11. Zavala’s car was consequently struck by the train.

Ambulance teams and personnel from the Philadelphia Fire Department joined the sheriff’s office crews.
