Marc Pankin San Rafael plane crash: Novato man identified as fatality in Saturday plane crash near San Rafael Airport – Pilot, Kirk Harford in stable condition.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of those killed in the fatal plane crash that occurred near San Rafael on Saturday.
According to reports, the San Rafael Police Department got a complaint about a bright flash of light in the sky and a power outage close to San Rafael Airport just after 10 p.m. on Saturday.
There were more reports of a jet hitting electrical lines close to the airport. A preliminary inquiry showed that one person had passed away and another had a serious condition.
The examination also revealed that the plane’s tailfin had collided with electrical cables just before it landed. It was challenging to approach the jet since power wires were coiled around it and across the crash site, which was a wetlands region.
The pilot, later identified as Kirk Harford of San Rafael, was extricated by San Rafael Fire Department rescuers after PG&E had turned off the wires. He was brought to John Muir Medical Center, where his status is severe right now.
Marc Pankin, a 59-year-old Novato resident, was the plane’s passenger, and he was declared dead at the scene.
According to flight manifests, there were just two passengers on the aircraft. On its way to San Rafael, it had left Minden, Nevada.
In order to determine what caused the collision, the National Transportation Safety Board is collaborating with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
