Leona Edwards Obituary News: Leona Edwards killed In Mercer County shooting Incident
This morning, Cory Callen appeared virtually in Mercer County Magistrate Court, where he was accused of first-degree murder in the untimely death of Leona Edwards.
The criminal complaint states that at approximately 8 p.m., Senior Trooper N.C. Patton of the West Virginia State Police received a distress call reporting that a female had been shot at 193 Garder Loop Road.
The victim, Leona Edwards, was shot numerous times as she was getting out of her car and died soon after, according to Patton’s lawsuit.
It was discovered by investigators that Edwards had just applied for a domestic violence protection order against Callen, who was accused of making repeated threats and of waiting for the victim to get out of her car.
Authorities were able to track down the individual who was alleged by witnesses to have fled the scene in a white SUV from Mercer County to Nicholas County, where he was eventually taken into custody.
UPDATE: Cory Callen has been named as the gunman in Mercer County.
Cory Callen, the 33-year-old suspect, was arrested in Nicholas County and is presently being held at the Central Regional Jail in Baxton County.
In Mercer County Magistrate Court, Callen is awaiting a video arraignment where he will be charged in connection with the fatal shooting.
The West Virginia State Police Princeton Attachment confirmed the death of a woman and the apprehension of a male suspect in Nicholas County following a gunshot incident close to Princeton last night.
The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. on the 100 block of Gardener Loop, close to the Lily Grove Community, however specifics are still unknown.
