A fiery wreck occurred on Rt. 220, just south of Aviator Dr., in Franklin County, on Friday soon after five in the morning. It was a devastating tragedy.

A 2017 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on Route 220 when it swerved off the right side of the road and collided with a 2017 Volvo tractor-trailer, according to Virginia State Police.

Illegally parked on the right shoulder of the road was the tractor-trailer. The trailer and the Jeep caught fire as a result of the collision.

Latovia O’Brayn Johnson, 36, of Greensboro, North Carolina, has been identified as the victim who was operating the Jeep.

Regretfully, Johnson passed away at the scene of the collision. It is still unclear, according to Virginia State Police, if Mr. Johnson was using his seatbelt at the time of the event.

The tractor-trailer’s driver escaped the crash unscathed.

Owing to the severity of the collision, Route 220 northbound had to be blocked for a considerable amount of time in order to enable cleanup efforts.
