Joseph Zephries Accident: In loving memory of Huntley man fatally struck while working along Main Street and Coyne Station Road.
According to Huntley Police Department in a media release, on Monday, January 8, 2024, at approximately 3:09 pm, police officers and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area of Main Street and Coyne Station Road for the report of a male struck by a vehicle while completing work along the roadway.
Responding officers arrived as the victim, 20-year-old Joseph Zephries of Huntley, was receiving treatment from the Huntley Fire Protection District. Mr. Zephries was subsequently transported to Northwestern Huntley Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
According to police, Main Street between Charles Sass Parkway and Coyne Station Road was closed down for approximately 5 hours on Monday evening as the Huntley Police Department and Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (K-CART) conducted the preliminary investigation.
Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle, a 2023 Kia Forte, was traveling eastbound on Main Street when it struck Mr. Zephries, who was on the south shoulder of the road completing utility line location services with USIC. The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old Chicago man, remained at the scene and has fully cooperated with police.
Joseph Zephries is remembered by family and friends as ‘full of life’.
At this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this incident. No charges have been filed at this time, pending a full accident reconstruction investigation, police said.
