John Ortiz Accident; Victim, John Ortiz Identified As Man killed In Hit-And-Run Crash In Fresno County
The family of John Ortiz, who was 77 years old and from Selma, has recognized him as the person who was killed in a hit-and-run accident that occurred earlier this week on Highway 99.
At approximately three o’clock on Monday afternoon, his wife was driving their pickup truck in the direction of the south.
It is believed by the California Highway Patrol that a motorist in a Chrysler 200 sedan either attempted to change lanes or drifted, causing them to collide with the truck.
Officer Mike Salas of the California Highway Patrol stated that the pickup vehicle lost control and went over the center divide. Unfortunately, two of the individuals involved in the accident incurred injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
At that moment, the driver of the Chrysler departed. According to the California Highway Patrol, they will now be charged with hit-and-run, which is a felony offense.
Unfortunately, John, who was a passenger in the truck, passed away at CRMC as a result of the injuries he sustained.
“It moves us deeply as well,” she said. It’s a bad thing. That is something that we would never want to hear again. When you place a person who is really important to a family, any member of the family, it is inevitable that it will mean something to you to have that person here.
The fact that we are able to assist in providing that family with the closure that they may require is something that is significant to us, as Officer Salas noted.
The children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that John leaves behind are all deceased.
In a statement, one of the grandchildren wrote:
“My grandfather was a devout individual who had a generous spirit. Our family has suffered the death of a pillar, and we are all utterly heartbroken over his passing.
By the time Christmas Day arrived, John would have been 78 years old.
The cancer had just been defeated, and he was on his way home following his final round of chemotherapy.
