Jim Pitcock Obituary-Death News; KATV News Director And Guardian Of Arkansas History, Jim Pitcock Passes Away 

We are saddened to announce the passing James Dean “Jim” Pitcock. He  passed away early on Sunday morning, October 8, 2023, after a short illness at the age of 83, Pitcock’s family announced Sunday morning.

Pitcock started his broadcasting career at KFSA-TV in Fort Smith in 1957, becoming a legendary figure in Arkansas television news.

He progressed from an intern to a studio cameraman at KFSA-TV.In order to work for KAAY Radio, Pitcock relocated to Little Rock in 1963. He eventually received his big break at KATV in 1964.

Pitcock was the sole broadcast journalist from Arkansas who travelled to Vietnam during the Vietnam War to gather firsthand accounts from Arkansan soldiers.

He held a number of positions at KATV before being appointed news director. As news director, Pitcock increased the number of news staff members from three to 55.

Pitcock will always be remembered as a devoted newsroom leader who never stopped pushing himself and others to achieve their goal of providing KATV viewers with the highest calibre news coverage.
