According to the office of the coroner, two people have lost their lives as a result of two different accidents that occurred in the county one day apart.
According to statement made by County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, the initial collision took place on North Williston Road in Florence at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Monday, December 11 2017. The victim was involved in a collision with another car after crossing over into the opposite lane. The person was identified as Jessica Lynn Shaw, who was 44 years old and from Florence.
In the second incident, which took place on December 12 at approximately 5:50 a.m. on South Irby Street at Poor Farm Road in Effingham, the victim, Dustin Matthew Brown, who was 23 years old and from Darlington, rear-ended a cement truck. Brown was transported by helicopter to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he passed away on Wednesday as a result of his injuries.
Von Lutcken has indicated that there is a third fatality, but he has not yet disclosed the identification because the family has not yet been informed.
