Glen Adsit Obituary; Renowned Orchestra Conductor And Director Of Bands At The Hartt School Is Dead
The Hartt community is grieving the loss of their beloved musical legend. Glen, a well-known music professor at the Hartt School, passed away suddenly on January 17, 2024. His music will always be unique, as will the experiences it has inspired.
Glen Adsit oversaw the Wind Ensemble as the director of Bands at Hartt School. Along with conducting programs with Hartt’s Director of Orchestras Edward Cumming, he was a graduate instrumentalist and co-director of the new music ensemble Foot in the Door.
Professor Adsit was appointed Director of Bands at The Hartt School in the fall of 2000. Professor Adsit received the Larsen Award in 2014 from the University of Hartford for his outstanding teaching. Prior to joining the Hartt School, he held the position of Associate Director of Bands at the University of New Mexico.
From 1986 to 1992, he taught junior high and high school students in the Plymouth-Canton School District in Michigan.
2010 saw the world premiere of Chen Yi’s Dragon Rhyme by the Hartt Wind Ensemble at Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall.
In addition, the group performed three times in 2007 (Ann Arbor, Michigan) at the CBDNA Conferences for the Eastern Division and in 2011 (Seattle, Washington) at the College Band Directors National Association Conferences.
Among other venues, Glen’s groups have performed at the Central Conservatory in Beijing, China, the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria, Benroya Ilsley Hall in Seattle, Washington, the Central Conservatory in New York City, and Harpa in Reykjavik, Iceland.
