George Chigova Obituary; SuperSport United Goalkeeper Chigova Has Passed Away.

The South African football community has suffered a severe blow once more. George Chigova, the goalkeeper for SuperSport United, passed away.

According to reports, Chigova died on Wednesday after collapsing. It was previously reported that he had a cardiac condition and had to take time off from playing the game.

In his native Zimbabwe, the international player for Zimbabwe also played for Gunners Harare and Dynamos. He spent some time at Polokwane City as well. With the Warriors, the 32-year-old has more over 30 caps.

A statement from SuperSport United has confirmed Chigova’s passing:
We have learned with deep sorrow of the demise of George Chigova, a former player for SuperSport United.

George came to us in 2014 from Dynamos in Zimbabwe, and he spent two stints with the club. In 2020, he returned to SuperSport after spending 2015 playing for Polokwane City. Even though he only made seven starts for the team, Ronwen Williams, Ricardo Goss, and Boalefa Pule found him to be a superb training partner and backup. He made 32 appearances as a representative of Zimbabwe.

George was a wonderful member of the club, adored by both present and past players as well as everyone else. He was a gentle giant.

Even though his employment with SuperSport United officially ended in June 2023, he frequently visited the stadium and training area to show his love for the squad.

We send our sincere sympathies to his friends and family in Zimbabwe as well as in South Africa during this trying and very sad time.
