The shooting in a residential neighborhood in Belleville, which resulted in the death of one man and the injury of a child, is currently under investigation by the homicide unit of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Francis Medina, 37, of Belleville, was declared dead at Clara Maass Medical Center on Saturday at 3:17 p.m., according to Robert Florida, an Essex County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman. In a tragic incident, a 4-year-old boy also sustained injuries as a result of the shooting.

According to a press release issued by the prosecutor’s office on Saturday night, Belleville police were called to the scene of a shooting on Mill Street in the township at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday. In a recent development, authorities have discovered Medina, who was found with several gunshot wounds. Prompt action was taken, as Medina was immediately transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention. On Saturday night, the young boy was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
