Evergreen Park Fatal Shooting: Mariano’s Employee Shot Dead by Boyfriend Inside Evergreen Park Store

Evergreen Park Fatal Shooting: A 21-year-old worker at Mariano’s in Evergreen Park, Illinois, was killed by gunfire early on Thursday, July 13, 2023. Police received a call shortly after 9:00 am reporting an active shooter at the Mariano’s grocery in the 2500 block of West 95th Street in Evergreen Park.

Evergreen Park police surveillance video shows the suspect, who is supposedly the victim’s boyfriend, following the victim inside the establishment.

A person was held close to the Edgewater address of 1330 West Thorndale Avenue, according to the Evergreen Park police chief. A gun was also discovered. Police were able to find the victim by locating a record from an earlier incident involving the two while he was working at an Amazon store in Oak Lawn.

When the police were able to recognize the suspect’s car, they were able to make an arrest. Police believe the incident is domestic in nature and pose no threat to the general public. There was yet another slight ankle injury.

Police Reports

A shooting inside a Mariano’s store in Evergreen Park Thursday left one person dead and another arrested in what police described as a “domestic-related” incident.

Authorities said they arrived at the store at 2559 W. 95th St. just after 9 a.m. for a report of an active shooter.

Evergreen Park Police Chief Michael D. Saunders said officers arrived at the store and discovered several people in the parking lot. They then went inside, but no gunshots were being fired at the time.

Officers evacuated people from the front of the building and continued in.
