Elizabeth Steward Car Accident; 32 Years Old Ladysmith Woman, Elizabeth Steward Passes Away After A 2 Car Accident In Barron County
Elizabeth Steward, 32, lost her life in a devastating two-car collision, and the city of Ladysmith is in grief.
The tragic collision happened on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in the evening at the intersection of Cameron and Barron’s County Road W and 18th Street.
Several calls regarding the accident were received by the Barron County 911 Center at 6:58 PM.
Along with representatives from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Barron Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, Barron Fire Department, Cameron Fire Department, Barron County First Responders, and Life Link Helicopter, deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department also arrived on the scene.
The accident happened when Elizabeth Steward’s truck and Braden Thomas’s truck, both driven by 19-year-old Braden Thomas of New Auburn, collided while driving east on CTH W.
Steward allegedly neglected to stop at the stop sign at County Road W while driving north on 18th St. Following the incident, both vehicles ended up in a field, with Thomas’s truck toppling and Steward’s completely engulfed in flames.
Both drivers received assistance from onlookers at the site, who also helped Steward get out of her flaming car.
Elizabeth Steward received emergency medical attention, but she was declared dead at the site. Braden Thomas had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by air to a nearby hospital.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is presently looking into the accident. County Road W was closed for more than four hours with the Barron County Highway Department’s help.
Elizabeth Steward’s former place of employment and residence, Winterhaven Resort – Bar & Grill, issued a sincere statement expressing their sorrow at her unexpected passing.
They recalled her as a customer service representative who always had a grin and a kind remark. Elizabeth departs from three adorable young girls.
The resort’s letter ended with a request that the neighborhood think about Elizabeth’s family and children during this trying time.
The people of Ladysmith are uniting to assist the Steward family and pay tribute to Elizabeth, a beloved part of the town.
Her terrible death serves as a sobering reminder of both the value of road safety and the frailty of life.
