Darrell Cunningham Car Accident; San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy, Darrell Cunningham Passes Away In a Fatal Car Accident
Authorities said on Saturday that one of the three people hospitalised after a crash in Northridge that claimed the lives of two people—including a Los Angeles police officer—was a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy who was not on duty.
During a press conference held at the L.A. County medical examiner’s office, LAPD Chief Michel Moore stated that Officer Darrell Cunningham Shamily died in the crash.
The incident happened at the intersection of Lindley Avenue and West Roscoe Boulevard about 1:15 in the morning, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. One of the cars had sheared a fire hydrant, creating a towering gusher, when firefighters and paramedics arrived.
Three people were saved from a black BMW that got trapped between an apartment building and a tree, according to the Fire Department.
Moore claims that the BMW struck Shamily and two passengers in a white Infiniti as they were travelling north on Lindley Avenue. The police chief stated that the BMW’s driver struck the passenger side of the Infiniti after going over the 100 mph speed limit and failing to stop at a red light.
Shamily and the person sitting in the front seat of the Infiniti—whose identity was withheld until family members were informed—were pronounced dead at the scene.
