Crystal Shanks Death; Identified As Morgan County Woman Killed In Two-vehicle Crash on Route 125 Near Ashland

The victim of a collision involving two vehicles that occurred on Route 125 has been identified as a woman from Morgan County.

The most recent reports from authorities with Illinois State Police Troop 6 indicate that on December 13, at around 7:30 in the morning, troopers responded to the scene of a collision involving two vehicles that occurred on Illinois Route 125 near Glick Road, which is located just east of Ashland.

A Chevrolet pickup truck was heading west on Illinois Route 125 near Glick Road when, at the same time, a Kia SUV was traveling east on Route 125 near the same spot, according to officials from the State Police.

It has been stated that the Kia SUV moved out into the westbound lane in order to pass another car. However, in the process of doing so, it pushed into the path of the westbound pickup truck and collided with it. Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that the Kia SUV’s driver had passed away.

On the afternoon of December 13, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon made the announcement that Crystal Shanks, who was 48 years old and from Literberry, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to him, an autopsy was carried out today, and the preliminary findings indicate that Mrs. Shanks died as a result of several blunt force injuries that she experienced in the accident.

It has been reported by the State Police that the driver of the pickup truck was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not disclosed.

Not long after the initial collision, a second collision took place in close proximity to the same site. This second collision involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial motor vehicle. After the second collision, there were no reports of any injuries.

During the first investigation, Route 125 was restricted to traffic in both directions; however, it was reopened later the same day.
