Richard Garmyn, sometimes known as “Gump,” was born in Lansing on July 6, 1965, to Richard and Patricia (Leseth) Garmyn. Those who had the honor of knowing Richard will always cherish their memories of him.
His voyage took place in Lansing, Michigan, and was marked by love, devotion, and a commitment to family and community.
Lansing said goodbye to a son, a brother, an uncle, and a beloved community member on November 6, 2023.
The foundations of “Gump’s” character and morals were laid in St. Therese Catholic School, where he started his schooling. He pursued his education at Lansing Catholic High School, where he graduated in 1983.
Lansing Catholic High School, an alma mater that saw his early years, was a pivotal point in Gump’s life that prepared him for the adventures that awaited him.
Gump’s quest for information brought him to Michigan State University, where he completed his coursework and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in building and construction management.
Equipped with the abilities and understanding he had gained in college, Gump set out on a career path that would ultimately intersect with his family’s history.
Gump’s decision to work for his family’s company, Vic Garmyn and Son Company, after graduating is evidence of his ties to his heritage and the principles his parents instilled in him.
His efforts to the family business demonstrated both his business skill and a strong feeling of obligation to the community that helped to form his identity.
As evidence of his adaptability, Gump later started a new business, Gump’s Barbeque. His love of cooking and entertaining came to life here as he created an area where families and friends could get together, laugh, and enjoy the tastes he had painstakingly created.
Gump’s Barbeque evolved into more than just a company; it was a manifestation of Gump’s kind disposition and giving nature.
