Sheriff Ron Hain and Undersheriff Amy Johnson break the devastating news to our community with sorrowful hearts. Deputy Ruchaj, fifty, died at home on February 14, 2024, from cardiac arrest. His sudden death has created a vacuum in our department’s culture and in our emotions.

Deputy Christopher Ruchaj committed his life to serving Kane County residents bravely, honorably, and with integrity. During his time working for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, he demonstrated professionalism, selflessness, and dedication. His dedication to maintaining the safety and security of our communities was steadfast, and everyone who had the honor of working with him will sincerely miss him.
