Brooke Atkins Obituary: Man charged with murder after fatal Sunday shooting near Loris; William Cody Perritt arrest & charges.
Following a fatal shooting on Sunday close to Loris, a man was taken into custody and charged, the Horry County Police Department reported.
The charges against William Cody Perritt include murder and having a weapon during a violent crime.
On Highway 701, there were allegations of a potential gunshot, so police responded. According to the complaint, Loris police had one suspect in custody in their car when Horry County officers arrived on the scene.
According to authorities, EMS arrived on the scene and placed the victim who had been shot in the head, in an ambulance. The victim, 19-year-old Brooke Atkins, was identified by coroner Tamara Willard and declared deceased at McLeod Loris Emergency Room.
After a medical examination, the subject was given back to the officers.
Perritt killed the female victim while carrying a firearm, according to reports. Witness testimonies and tangible evidence gathered on the spot were used to make this determination.
Online data indicates Perritt remains a prisoner at the J. Reuben Long Detention Facility.
