Benjamin Merritt Obituary Fenton: 34-year-old High Ridge man killed in road-rage shooting near Highway 141 and Gravois Bluffs in Fenton; Robert Mulkey arrest & charges.

The deceased in a shooting that occurred on Highway 141, close to Gravois Bluffs in Fenton, on Friday morning and was allegedly the result of a road rage incident. The victim was identified by St. Louis County Police on Saturday.

Benjamin Merritt, 34, of High Ridge was the man killed in the incident, according to a news release.

Robert Mulkey, 53, of Crystal City, Missouri, has been charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Merritt’s demise. Mulkey is being held without a 10% bond on a $500,000 cash only basis.

Around 8:10 a.m. on Friday, police were called to Highway 141 and Gravois Bluffs Boulevard in response to a report of a traffic hazard. When they arrived, they discovered two automobiles in the road and a man who seemed to have been shot. After being transported to a hospital, the shot guy passed away there.

A probable cause statement states that the victim stopped traffic, got out of his automobile, and went up to Mulkey, who was still in his car. The victim then “flicked his cigarette” at Mulkey’s face, according to the police. Mulkey killed him by shooting him in the back as he was making his way back to his car.

Right now, the suspect is being held.
