A Franklin lady was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Thursday, and the Connecticut State Police are still investigating the events that led up to the collision.

Around 11:53 a.m., a half-mile long incident on Interstate 95 near Stonington, just north of Exit 91, took place.

Law enforcement reports that a Mazda CX-5 driver collided with the left rear corner of a parked Toyota Tundra and a Honda Civic, causing considerable traffic congestion on Interstate 95.

The Honda was forced off the right side of the road by the impact and came to an uncontrolled stop in a ditch. Simultaneously, the Mazda rolled over on its side on the left shoulder, and the Toyota remained in the left lane.

Sadly, the 78-year-old Franklin, North Carolina resident driving the Honda Civic died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital by EMS.

All three of the involved vehicles were hauled away following the crash. Witnesses or anybody with video of the event are urged to provide information with Connecticut State Police Christopher Trooper Brett by calling 860-848-6500, extension 5.
