On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, the body of a man who had been reported missing and was 72 years old was discovered along the coast of Sitio Estaca, Barangay Minolos, Barili town, southwest Cebu.
His relatives, a rural health practitioner named Michelle Dagoy, and members of the Barili police force discovered the body of Alfredo Tubat lying on his stomach lying on the ground.
On November 18, Tubat did not return to their residence in Barangay Cabiangon, which is located in the town of Pinamungajan. Since then, they have not been seen.
Rebekah Tubat Arzadon, the victim’s daughter, revealed in a radio broadcast that took place on Tuesday, November 21, that prior to their father’s disappearance, they had seen him in a river approximately forty meters away from their home in Pinamungajan.
“Murag nag-standby ni siya sa sapa unya kay kusog man kaayo ang ulan nagbaha man sad ang sapa akong duda padung barog unya ningtukod siya unya nadala siya sa anod sa baha,” according to Arzadon.
Arzadon acknowledged that the victim was suffering from both physical and emotional condition.
Following the tragic event, the Mayor of Barili, John-John Garcia IV, offered the family of the victim several forms of financial assistance.
I didn’t think twice about making a financial contribution to help enable the transportation of the deceased person’s body back to their neighborhood. My deepest condolences are extended to them at this time. I am aware that the mourning family cannot be comforted solely by financial support; this is something that I understand. Garcia stated on Tuesday that he could connect with their feelings because he had also experienced the loss of a father.
