Today, November 21, 2023, at 12:25 a.m., Betty J. Heichelbech, 95, of Jasper, passed away in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.
On August 29, 1928, Betty was born in Jasper, Indiana, to Edward and Otillia (Hopf) Buehler. On June 17, 1948, she wed Walter “Jerk” Heichelbech. He passed away on December 17, 1970, before her. For 38 years, Betty was the owner and operator of Heichelbech Restaurant. She worked at Wooden Keg Liquor and Circle A after retiring.
St. Joseph Catholic Church, D of I, St Ann’s Society, Indiana Restaurant Association, American Legion Post #147, 20th Century Literary Club, St. Vincent DePaul, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and the Original Homemaker Club were among the organizations she belonged to.
She gave her time to RSVP, Red Cross, Brookside Nursing Home, St. Charles Health Campus, Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, and RSVP.
She was an avid photographer. She enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, jigsaw, word puzzles, needlework, and Indiana basketball.
Three grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, and Tiffany (Shawn) Browning; four great-grandchildren, Tia Pennington, Tara Pennington, and fiancé, Kalin Knepp; one daughter, Beth Browning of Jasper; and Ryan Doogs are her surviving family members.
Along with her spouse, she was predeceased by one son, Rodney Heichelbech; four sisters, Annie Schmidt, Lenora Knies, Doloras “Jimmie” Mehringer, and Sally Schitter.
