On Monday, November 20, 2023, Leadership Maryland announced the passing of long-time Director of Administration for Leadership Maryland, Melissa Leighton after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Melissa Leighton, long-time Director of Administration for Leadership Maryland, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. We are deeply saddened to learn of this loss and want to express our sincerest condolences to Melissa’s friends and family,” the organization announced via a social media post.

Melissa served Leadership Maryland for nearly 15 years, quickly becoming an integral member of the organization, and a go-to for many of our members for problems big or small. Melissa was not one to shy away from taking on extra responsibility, serving as interim President & CEO during the summer of 2010.

“Her dedication to the organization and the notion of leadership shined through every day, and she was someone who truly embodied our mission and values.”
