Waylon Sauer Car Accident: In loving memory of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School student killed in Tuesday crash near Lambert’s Cove Road.

After Waylon Sauer, a junior at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, died in an automobile accident on Tuesday night, the community came together to express their sorrow and support for him.

Waylon belonged to the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe and was seventeen years old.

According to the West Tisbury police in a press release Wednesday morning, the crash occurred on State Road in the area of Lambert’s Cove Road.

“The operator, a 17 year old, was killed when he drove off the roadway and collided with a tree, speed was a factor in the crash,” police said in the press release. “At approximately 10:38 p.m. the West Tisbury Police Department, Fire Department, and Tri-Town EMS were dispatched.”

Waylon was a beloved fisherman, surfer, athlete, leader, and good student. He participated in both the high school and unified basketball teams this season. Within the Special Olympics, a program called “Unified Basketball” unites individuals with and without intellectual disability on the same squad.

Waylon’s parents are Dan Sauer and Wenonah Madison, who own and operate 7a foods in West Tisbury.
