Margaret Sumney Obituary News: Murder of South Fayette township mom by her son David Sumney investigated on American Monster episode.
According to the Allegheny County Police Department in a media release on Monday, September 30, 2019, South Fayette Police responded to 172 Olde Orchard Drive for a welfare check on September 2, 2019. Officers made entry into the home and discovered the 67-year-old resident deceased, police said.
According to police, the cause of death was not immediately apparent and South Fayette police requested the assistance of the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit for a death investigation. On September 3, 2019, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner performed a post mortem examination. The Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma and the manner homicide.
Homicide detectives initiated a homicide investigation. Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed 30-year David Sumney, the victim’s son, as a suspect. On September 4, 2019, Sumney was charged with receiving stolen property after detectives discovered jewelry belonging to his mother in his possession. Sumney was lodged in the Allegheny County Jail on those charges.
On September 28, 2019, detectives applied for and received a homicide arrest warrant for David Sumney. David Sumney is charged with criminal homicide, robbery, theft and abuse of a corpse.
