We would like to share the news that Julian Richfield lost his valiant fight with cancer early this morning (November 2, 2023) and offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Julian was a well-known writer about wine and lifestyle. “My dear and much loved friend Julian Richfield passed away this morning after a mercifully short battle with cancer,” Michael Olivier wrote on Facebook after learning of Julian Richfield’s passing. “Julian, you’ll always be in our hearts.” How much fun we have shared together these past few years! All my love to Rosalie and her baby Clare.
Julian continued his studies at Wits University in the 1960s. He worked as a book reviewer, public relations and communications consultant, and journalist. He moved to Cape Town in 1991, and it was there that he developed an early interest in wine. He has visited more than 210 wineries and vineyards in the Cape Winelands.
