On November 3, 2023, Derek Heighway, a cherished and longtime resident of Chorley, went away, leaving a void in the hearts of his friends, family, and the entire community. Derek’s life served as an example of the value of friendship, love, and perseverance. Though his passing was extremely painful, his memory will endure.
Derek was raised in Chorley and developed close relationships with the people and things that shaped his identity there. He was a trustworthy member of the community who was always willing to lend a hand and say hello to anyone in need. Everyone adored him for his contagious happiness and unending kindness. Derek loved being a husband, father, and grandpa and was totally committed to his family.
Everyone who knew him found inspiration in his unwavering love and dedication to his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and caring for his home garden. People in his company were happier and more relaxed.
Derek’s love of assisting people went well beyond his close family and included a variety of volunteer activities for neighborhood organizations. He took great pride in contributing to the betterment of Chorley’s quality of life, and he was a living example of civic duty.
His unwavering efforts and commitment to making Chorley better will endure in the memories and hearts of upcoming generations. Derek Heighway was a kind and unselfish citizen, and Chorley will never be the same without him. Even though he is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will endure in the minds and hearts of those who knew him.
