Smoke’s Poutinerie founder & CEO Ryan Smolkin passed away on Sunday, October 29, due to unexpected complications from a recent surgery, the fast-food chain announced. He was 50.
Ryan was born August 23, 1973 to Howard Smolkin and the late Patricia Smolkin (nee Ridewood).
Smolkin started the Ajax, Ontario-based brand in 2009. He dubbed himself the company’s chief entertainment officer. Under his leadership, Smoke’s locations cropped up all over Canada and the brand expanded into the U.S.
Mark Cunningham, president and chief operating officer of Smoke, will assume Smolkin’s responsibilities.
