45-year-old Norwalk man killed in moped crash.

According to a buddy, a 45-year-old Norwalk man passed away while operating a brand-new scooter that he purchased to reduce his gas consumption.

The police department’s spokesman, Sgt. Sofia Gulino, stated that Joseph Velez, 45, was engaged in a collision on his moped at the junction of Maple Street and Van Buren Avenue on Friday night at around 10 p.m.

As per Gulino, Velez’s scooter and an SUV were involved in the collision. After being taken to Norwalk Hospital, Velez succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision.

According to Gulino, the driver of the other vehicle, an SUV, remained at the site and assisted the police.

According to Velez’s close friend Brian Rupar, the 45-year-old only recently purchased the moped in an effort to save money on gas. According to Rupar, Velez’s death must have been one of the first times he had ridden the moped since he purchased it, if not the first time ever.
