Financial sector top professional Ravi Abeysuriya has passed away after a sudden illness.
When he passed away, Abeysuriya was a director of the following companies: Straight Sale Ltd., CFA Society Sri Lanka, Bio Foods Ltd., Candor Equities Ltd., HNB Assurance PLC, Seylan Bank PLC, and The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors.Prior to this, he held the positions of CEO of Fitch Ratings Lanka, the nation’s first international credit rating agency, Managing Director of Amba Research Lanka, a trailblazing investment research outsourcing company, Head of Corporate Finance at JP Morgan, and Head of Strategic Business Development and Shared Services of Hayleys Group. He served as a director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and was named twice to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka’s commission.
Abeysuriya is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK, and a Chartered Financial Analyst and has an MBA from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
One of Ravi Abeysuriya’s significant contributions was his role as the founding member and the First head of the Fitch Ratings’ Sri Lanka unit. Serving as the Managing Director/CEO of Fitch Ratings SL from 1999 to 2004, he played a pivotal role in establishing a robust credit rating system in the country. This step was instrumental in enhancing Sri Lanka’s financial credibility on the global stage.
