Kathleen Buchanan, a Grand Rapids, Michigan native and co-founder of the Maternal Wellness Programme, has passed away. She sadly passed away, leaving her loved ones devastated. A Facebook post stating, “My heart is broken to hear of Kathleen Buchanan’s passing” served as confirmation of her death. She was among the most loving, compassionate, and sweet individuals I’ve ever met. When this report was written, the cause of Kathleen Buchanan’s death was still unknown.

She has devoted her career to the field of obstetrics (OB) nursing and has worked in every Grand Rapids OB department save Metro, where she has extensive experience. At the moment, she works part-time at Grand Rapids Women’s Health and as a Postpartum staff nurse at Spectrum.

Her main area of interest is in offering postpartum families compassionate support as they navigate the difficulties associated with perinatal loss and PMAD (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders).

In these areas, she actively co-facilitates weekly support groups, creating a caring atmosphere for individuals in need. She actively participates in promoting awareness about PMAD and its significant consequences on families in addition to her clinical duties.

Notably, she hosts educational “survivor mom” panels for medical associations and nearby churches with the goal of fostering greater empathy and understanding in the community.

The prestigious Mom’s Bloom recognised her extraordinary efforts by bestowing upon her the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. In addition, Grand Rapids Magazine named her a finalist for the Nursing Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2020 due to her extraordinary commitment to the nursing profession.

Kathleen was a vocal supporter of women’s health concerns outside of the clinic, using her platform to spread knowledge and awareness throughout the neighbourhood.

Her participation in a number of outreach initiatives has given women from different backgrounds a sense of empowerment and self-advocacy. She has inspired many people to take charge of their health and well-being by her actions, which have made her a symbol of empowerment and resiliency.
