Hermen Geertsema Obituary-Death News; Equine Veterinarian in Langley, British Columbia, Hermen Geertsema Passes Away Tragically
Tragically, Hermen Geertsema, an equine veterinarian from Langley, British Columbia, has died. Yesterday, Dr. Hermen P. Geertsema, DVM, was declared deceased. A heart attack claimed his life. Hermen likes to make jokes about how much driving he does and how he’s a part-time truck driver. During this trying time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the community.
“I regret to inform you that Hermen Geertsema passed away yesterday due to a heart attack. Although Hermen and I haven’t communicated since school, I was aware that he was working with horses in the Lower Mainland. I think his practise was in Aldergrove, a short drive away.
With more than 14 years of experience in equine medicine, Dr Hermen Geertsema was Jaquima Ranch’s preferred veterinarian. Hermen attended the oldest veterinary institution in America, the Ontario Veterinary institution, after receiving his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the Ontario Agricultural College in 1989.
He also holds a degree from the Canadian School of Horseshoeing, and he is very knowledgeable about and passionate about topics pertaining to the feet and hooves. Hermen gives great consideration to prophylactic care and counsels all horses under his charge regarding diet, immunisations, and deworming.
In terms of equine dentistry, he strikes a balance between routine maintenance and the floating that is required to extend the life of the horses’ teeth. Emergency situations involving colic, lameness and hoof-related issues, arthritis, melanoma, ultrasonography, video endoscopy, on-site surgery, and other conditions are all part of Hermen’s vast practical experience.
He could be relied upon to promptly and efficiently handle any equine illnesses or emergencies because he was available around-the-clock. Constantly at the forefront of technology, Hermen has expanded his mobile lab to include a portable digital X-ray machine that delivers amazing quality results instantly on location.
