Amari Seldon Obituary: The University of Maryland is currently enveloped in a sombre atmosphere following a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on campus on Tuesday, October 25, 2023. The University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD) is in the midst of an ongoing investigation concerning the tragic passing of a sophomore psychology student, identified as Amari Seldon.

The chilling news emerged when a student was discovered lifeless on the northern vicinity of SECU Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. This grave information was conveyed to the entire campus community through an email dispatched Tuesday evening by Patty Perillo, the Vice President of Student Affairs at the University. Perillo expressed deep anguish over the loss, underscoring the profound pain it inflicts on the campus community.

As protocol dictates, the next of kin were duly informed about the devastating news on the same day, as stated in the email. Although Amari Seldon’s identity has now been shared, initially, it was kept under wraps, aligning with the email’s earlier narrative.

According to an email that Susan Rivera, the Dean of the College of Behavioural and Social Sciences, sent to students on Tuesday, Amari was a member of the prestigious College of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the university. Additionally, a separate email from the university’s Resident Life Department to the residents of Denton Hall affirmed that Amari resided in that particular building.

The official cause of Amari’s passing will be ascertained by the Maryland Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, as per the information shared by UMPD spokesperson Lt. Rosanne Hoaas with The Diamondback. It was also clarified that there isn’t any looming threat to the university community following this incident.

A UMPD notification sent at 2:18 p.m. on Tuesday informed of the ongoing investigation’s necessity for the closure of numerous roads near SECU Stadium’s north side. By 4:23 p.m., the roads had reopened, and the on-site investigation was complete.
