St. Catharines Fatal Shooting: Active Shooter, Police Watchdog Called in Following Fatal Police Shooting in St. Catharines, Ont.
St. Catharines Fatal Shooting: On Oct. 23, 2023, at 9 p.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) responded to a residential address located on Melody Trail near Arthur Street in the City of St. Catharines.
Upon arrival, an interaction took place between uniform patrol officers and an adult male. As a result of the interaction, the adult male was shot by police.
Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics responded alongside members of the St. Catharines Fire and Emergency Services. Despite lifesaving measures, the male was pronounced deceased.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked its mandate.
The incident is also being investigated by detectives from the NRPS.
Portions of Melody Trail and Arthur Street are closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The road closures can be expected to remain in place for the next several hours.

Police say lifesaving measures were performed by paramedics, but the man died of his injuries.
